The United States is one of the countries in the world that does not provide a specific right to paternity leave. However, there are some provisions that can be availed by new parents, depending on their situation.
The law entitles both men and women to take maternity leave in addition to any other paid time off they are entitled to if they need it because of an illness or disability related to pregnancy or childbirth. There is no federal law mandating paternity leave, but many states have passed laws requiring employers to give workers some type of paid leave for family caregiving purposes.
